The municipal water company of Kraków set out its "125 projects for 125 years" programme in a news item dated 9 September 2026. The utility marks its 125th year in 2026, and the anniversary list holds exactly that many network jobs across the city. The programme rests on the utility's long-range blueprint for developing and upgrading water supply and sewerage facilities over the years 2026 to 2030.
How the list breaks down
Sixty entries come straight from the utility's regular technical and financial schedule, which covers close to 40 km of mains and sewers that are either new or being replaced. A resolution passed by the management board added a further 66 jobs for the anniversary year. Those are expected to contribute another 18 km across 17 city districts and to bring roughly 3,000 new customers onto the system directly. The utility puts the price of the whole package at some PLN 111 million.
Four districts lead on the number of jobs: XVIII Nowa Huta with 23, X Swoszowice with 19, IV Prądnik Biały with 16 and VII Zwierzyniec with 11.
Why go trenchless
The company says that wherever it can, it will work by trenchless methods, sparing residents, drivers and pedestrians as much nuisance as possible. Bringing in a drilling rig instead of cutting a trench means roads close for less time and there is less damage to surfaces and greenery. The approach is already routine when mains are replaced in busy parts of Kraków, where a street corridor has no room for excavated spoil.
Customers are meant to feel the difference: more properties joined to the city network, steadier water pressure, smoother sewage removal, fewer outdated septic tanks and greater fire safety thanks to new hydrants. The utility states that 2026 and 2027 will be breakthrough years for its capital works.
